Every family has a list of Saturday plans that sounded better in theory. The useful version of a weekend guide is short, honest about distance, and does not pretend that a 90-minute drive each way is a quick outing. This one is written for households living in the Gunjur and Sarjapur Road area, and covers only places we could verify.
We give no ticket prices or opening hours here, because those change and we could not confirm them from official sources; check each place's own site before you go. Drive times to local places come from Google Maps, measured from the Whispering Hues pin on Saturday evening 17 October 2026. This is a cluster article in our luxury living in East Bangalore hub. For food, we point you to best restaurants and cafes on Sarjapur Road, and for more local ideas, weekend things to do near Sarjapur Road.
Close to home: under half an hour
The nearest weekend options are malls and sports shops, which suit short, flexible outings. Google Maps showed Confident Square Mall at about 21 minutes (4.2 km), Forum The Prestige City at about 23 minutes (5.6 km) and Decathlon Sarjapura at about 23 minutes (8.3 km).
Decathlon showed 4.4 from 22,588 reviews in October 2026, which suits families with active children: bikes, rackets and cricket kits in one place. The two malls are newer and have far fewer reviews (4.6 from 43 and 4.5 from 74), so judge them yourself. Details on each are in villas near malls on Sarjapur Road.
Inside the community
For many families the best weekend is the one that needs no car. Whispering Hues is planned with a swimming pool, gym, squash court, badminton court, table tennis and indoor games in the clubhouse, plus a kids' play area with sand pit, tot-lot, play lawn, skating rink, half basketball court, cricket pitch, tennis court and an amphitheatre. These are proposed amenities at the EOI stage and nothing is built yet; the amenities page has the full planned list.
When you compare communities, ask which of these are on the sanctioned plan and when each phase is due.
Nature and animals: Bannerghatta Biological Park
Bannerghatta Biological Park, south of the city, is the standard full-day family outing, with a zoo, a butterfly park and safaris. Karnataka Tourism lists the park, and several guides say it is closed on Tuesdays; the Grand Safari is run separately, so book and check timings first. We did not find the park's own site in our search, so treat hours as unconfirmed.
It is a long drive from Gunjur. We have not measured it, so check Google Maps for your departure time, and plan a full day.
Science and learning
The Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium in central Bengaluru is administered by the Bangalore Association for Science Education, per the Government of India science-centres portal, which lists daily sky-theatre shows, science films and star-gazing events. It suits curious children, particularly with a combined trip to the centre of the city. Confirm show timings with them directly.
Gardens and festivals: Lalbagh
Lalbagh Botanical Garden holds flower shows around Republic Day and Independence Day, run by the state Horticulture Department, according to Karnataka Tourism. The January 2026 edition ran 14 to 26 January; the next January show is a natural family plan, but we have not seen the 2027 dates, so watch for the announcement.
Amusement parks: Wonderla
Wonderla is an amusement park on Mysore Road, around 28 km from central Bengaluru according to listings that name wonderla.com as its site, with land and water rides. That puts it on the opposite side of the city from Gunjur. A trip is realistically a full day and a long drive each way, so plan it for a non-peak weekend, and check the official site for tickets and timings, which we have not verified.
Making weekends easier
Pick one anchor activity and keep the rest flexible. Leave early to beat the road, since Varthur Road and Sarjapur Road jam up later in the morning. Keep a half-day outing nearby for the weekends when the roads are bad, and save the full-day trips for long weekends.
You can see the planned play areas and the surrounding roads for yourself: book a site visit or WhatsApp +91 80509 73051. Whispering Hues is at EOI stage; a visit request does not reserve a villa. Our family-friendly villas guide covers the home side of family living.
