Sarjapur Road Connectivity Guide: Roads, Metro, Rail

Light road map of Bengaluru with a man walking, illustrating Sarjapur Road connectivity

The short answer

Connectivity near Gunjur today is by road. On a Saturday evening in October 2026 Google Maps showed Dommasandra at about 14 minutes, Carmelaram station about 27, Silk Board about 1 hr 12 and the airport about 2 hr 5 (56.3 km). Metro, ring road and suburban rail projects are planned or under construction.

Connectivity is the hardest topic to write about honestly on the Sarjapur Road side, because the present is road-bound and the future is a list of projects whose dates keep moving. This guide separates the two. First, what you can measure today; then what has been announced, with dates and sources, and what we could not verify.

Drive times are Google Maps readings from the Whispering Hues pin at Ramnaikanahalli Road, Hegondanahalli, taken on the evening of Saturday 17 October 2026. They are a busy-evening snapshot. Part of our luxury living in East Bangalore guide.

What you can measure today

Today, living near Gunjur means driving. The table gives the readings for the main reference points.

Destination Drive time Distance Route in Google
Dommasandra Circle about 14 min 2.3 km Ramnaikanahalli Rd, then Varthur–Sarjapur Rd
Carmelaram railway station about 27 min 9.5 km Varthur–Sarjapur Rd, Gunjur–Doddakannelli Rd
Whitefield about 46 min 9.7 km Varthur Rd
Silk Board junction about 1 hr 12 min 19.2 km NH 44
Kempegowda International Airport about 2 hr 5 min 56.3 km NH 44

The pattern is clear: distances are modest, times are not. Varthur Road and the Sarjapur Road spine absorb nearly all traffic, and the evening peak is long.

The airport, said plainly

The airport is a long drive from here: about 2 hr 5 min for 56.3 km on a Saturday evening. That is the worst-case end of the range, and early mornings and late nights are much faster, but it is not a commute you do casually.

Realistic planning tips: build in a generous buffer for any flight, and for early-morning departures consider travelling the night before or taking a pre-booked cab rather than hailing one. For return flights landing late at night, the road is much clearer. If you fly weekly for work, this is a real argument for a different address, and our best areas to buy villas page discusses the northern belt. If you fly a few times a year, it is an irritation, not a deal-breaker. Use your own timing tests rather than ours.

Metro: what is operating and what is not

The existing Purple Line already reaches Whitefield (Kadugodi), and reports say it has run end to end since October 2023, but no metro line serves the Gunjur belt itself today. The lines that might change the East's picture are still being built, and dates have repeatedly slipped.

  • Blue Line, Phase 2A (Silk Board to KR Puram, 19.75 km along the Outer Ring Road): a Business Today report in August 2026 said trial runs between KR Pura and HSR Layout were targeted for October 2026 and that the Silk Board to KR Pura section was expected to open by the end of 2026, per the state government. Earlier mid-2026 targets were missed.
  • Blue Line, Phase 2B (KR Puram to the airport, 38.44 km): the same coverage put Hebbal to airport around mid-2027 in the Deputy Chief Minister's timeline, with another report suggesting the full line could slip to March 2028. The Union government told Parliament that 72% of civil work on the 58 km corridor was complete.
  • Pink Line: the elevated stretch from Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere was reported as due around mid-October 2026, with the underground section to Nagawara later; we could not confirm it has opened. It serves the south-east and centre, not the Gunjur belt.

These are reports of targets, not operating services. BMRCL (bmrc.co.in) is the source to check for the current position. Even when the Blue Line opens, the last stretch to Gunjur will still be by road.

Suburban rail

Suburban rail would add the first real rail option on the Carmelaram side, but it is years away. K-RIDE's Corridor 4 (Heelalige to Rajanukunte) lists Carmelaram as a station, and a June 2026 report quoted K-RIDE as targeting December 2028 for first services on Corridor 2, with Corridor 4 in March or June 2029. Earlier targets were December 2026, which have passed. Treat all of this as planned or under construction and subject to change.

Carmelaram station exists today and was about 27 minutes by road from the pin; we have not verified train frequency, so check with the railway.

Ring roads

Two ring road projects are discussed most in this area, and neither is finished. The Bengaluru Business Corridor (the former Peripheral Ring Road) is a 74 km planned eight-lane expressway between Tumakuru Road and Hosur Road; BDA floated global tenders in March 2026 for a first 19.8 km package at an estimated Rs 3,348 crore, with land acquisition continuing. Completion dates differ by source, so we give none.

The Satellite Town Ring Road (NH-948A, about 280 km) is partly operational, with an 80 km Dobbaspet to Hoskote stretch inaugurated in March 2024. We could not verify the status of the sections near Sarjapur, so we make no claim for them. Neither road is a reason by itself to choose or avoid a home today.

Practical advice for residents

Treat road time as your connectivity, and treat everything else as upside. Choose home, school and workplace within a smaller radius if you can; keep a second route in mind; and test your hours on the real roads.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a metro station near Gunjur?

No. As of the reports we reviewed in October 2026, no metro line serves the Gunjur belt. The Purple Line reaches Whitefield, and the Blue Line from Silk Board to KR Puram was still under construction.

When will the airport metro open?

Press reports in August 2026 gave target dates between mid-2027 and March 2028 for the airport section, and those dates have moved before. We do not give a firm date. Check BMRCL for the latest.

What is the best time to drive to the airport from this side?

We only measured a Saturday evening (about 2 hr 5 min). Early-morning and late-night runs are generally faster, but we have not measured them, so test with Google Maps' depart-at setting for your flight time.
